Media Matters staff go green
Four Media Matters staff are frantically turning off lights, pulling out plugs and switching from standby after taking on the Employee Energy Challenge.
The eco-friendly four have hooked monitors up to their homes' electricity meters with the aim of reducing their usage. After a week of monitoring normal levels, the challenge is to slash the amount of energy used over the following fortnight. And it's not as easy as it sounds.
"While most of us class ourselves as pretty energy conscious, persuading our families to switch off lights, turn off appliances at the plug and not leave things like computers on standby is hardwork," said account executive Suzanne Ostler.
"As an awareness exercise it's really interesting and very valuable - though we're not convinced we're going to be winning any prizes!"
The Challenge has been issued by Peterborough City Council with prizes for those who record the greatest energy saving.
