Team challenges for the 32 mile Hambleton Hobble walk

Media Matters

Staff at Peterborough PR and marketing agency Media Matters will be striding out for charity as they undertake a 50km walk across the Yorkshire moors. The team is tackling the Hambleton Hobble through forests, over moors, up hills and across fords during a weekend in August - with a night under canvas half way round.

The group is aiming to raise as much sponsorship as possible for the NSPCC's Peterborough Business Support Group which helps fund projects supporting vulnerable youngsters in Greater Peterborough.

Media Matters' staff will be travelling up to Yorkshire on Saturday, August 21 for the two day trek and camping at the half way point. To sponsor the team please visit www.justgiving.com/mediamatterspr.

The walk

The Hambleton Hobble is a 32 mile circular walk starting at Osmotherley, about seven miles from Northallerton, right on the western fringe of the North Yorkshire Moors.

Hambleton HobbleThe route is centred around Black Hambleton - a 399 metre hill and part of the Tabular Hills which, we're promised, offer excellent views over the Vale of York to the Pennines.

The first day will see us skirting the villages of Thimbleby, Over Silton, Nether Silton, Kepwick and Cold Kirby before arriving for our overnight stay at a campsite in Scawton. The following day it's another 16 miles of the same - hills, fields, streams, moors and fabulous views - taking us back to Osmotherley.

Team challenges

With just a few weeks to go before the Media Matters team strides out on its inaugural charity walk, training is in full swing, boots have been worn in and the fund raising has been stepped up a gear. There's 32 miles of tough terrain - including forests, moors, hills and fords - to tackle on the Hambleton Hobble in the North Yorkshire moors, and a night under canvas half way round.

The Walk is going to prove a real challenge for us as a team but as individuals there are some demons to be faced too - and rather varied they are.

Accounts director Dawn says: "Living on the edge of the Fens means that hill climbing is a bit of a non-event. Having tested part of our planned route, I can vouch for the number of hills we will encounter. Teamwork will have a whole new meaning after this."

Account executive Cetti says: "While I am used to the physical exercise of swimming, pilates and body combat, this is really out of my comfort zone - the challenge being not the walking, but walking such a long way! I'm really looking forward to it though and, compared to my normal weekend in a house with two demanding and energetic children, it will be a chance to have a rest!"

Account executive Suzanne says: "I run half marathons so I'm not too worried about the distances involved, it's pegging back to a walk and so being on the move for longer that'll be the challenge. That and having to face my workmates first thing in the morning pre-make up (though that may prove more of a challenge for them than me).

New media executive Nilesh says: "It's going to be hard missing a Posh match on the Saturday. I've only missed half a dozen games in the last four years so I'll be glued to my phone for regular updates from fellow fans. They're playing Huddersfield at home that day!"

Media executive Angie: "The challenge for me will be walking that far on that kind of terrain. I'm not too worried about not having access to hair straighteners."

Online marketing consultant Rob says: "I'm an extremely dedicated (ie: picky) vegetarian and my hardest challenge will be finding something that I'm comfortable eating during the walk. While the rest of the team are enjoying their hard-earned barbeque, you'll find me grazing or nibbling on carrots with an army of wild rabbits..."

Marketing consultant Karen says: "I love walking but I've never been very good at climbing so the hills are going to be a challenge. I know it'll be good to push myself so I am determined! The number of miles are a bit scary but I'm confident we can do it - and the fact it's for a good cause is a great incentive."
